Black Techno Matters, with support from Mostbeautifullest, presents LIBER8 PGH, a Juneteenth celebration in collaboration with 9 other cities across the country. This series, now in its 3rd year, is a statement to the music community and the world that BLACK TECHNO MATTERS and shows what's possible when Black artists organize together, rep their city, and celebrate the tapestry of techno and electronic music from a Black perspective.
Pittsburgh may not immediately seem like an obvious choice to include in this series with the likes of Detroit and NYC—cities immediately associated with techno. But The *Steel* City has its own special place in music history. It's the home of the first commercial radio station (KDKA); dubbed “Little Harlem”, it was an epicenter of jazz in the 1920’s through 50’s; and today Pittsburgh houses famed techno after-hours club Hot Mass and a growing population of club music DJs and producers who each have a unique perspective and outlook on the genre.
LIBER8 PGH features an exciting roster of celebrated DJs skilled in electronic music based in Pittsburgh - HUNY XO, ROJO, & XC-17 - and Philly - ADAB, as well as an electrifying special performance by guitarist, singer, and songwriter Byron Nash.
Join us on June 19 at Spirit for this monumental event which will also be livestreamed!
