Featured Artist: Laurie Trok
Laurie Trok is a visual artist born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Her studio is in the Mine Safety Appliance building in Point Breeze a building that houses over 40 artists.
She creates paintings, laser cut jewelry, and many works made from cut paper ranging from small pieces to gallery sized installations. The cut paper installations and small works focus on time, language, and improvisation. While attending a recent Artist in Residence program at the Vermont Studio Center in Johnson, Vermont, she was able to build larger scale paper installations and developed an interest in extending the works into other media.
Laurie is a member of Techshop Pittsburgh, where she has been able to fabricate works of art on a much larger scale and include a wide range of materials. Often that process begins with cutting paper pieces by hand, and using those to create sculpture using a CNC laser cutter.
She is also a member of Associated Artists of Pittsburgh, and exhibited in several juried exhibitions over the past few years at institutions such as the Carnegie Museum of Art, The Pittsburgh Center for the Arts, and the Westmoreland Museum of American Art.
